Don’t let your historical data disappear!
Google is googling hard right now. From the introduction of AI Overviews in May to the deletion of all historical Universal Analytics Data in July, we are squarely in the midst of a digital transition.
Don’t worry - you’re likely already tracking on GA4 since last summer, but now it’s time to make sure you’ve got what you need from the old GA. You will have access to your historical GA data until July 1, 2024, so if you’re going to do something with it - now is the time.
You’ve got three options: Download key metrics and dimensions manually (ie. Sessions by channels and landing pages), use this handy google sheet plugin or, just let it all go. Historical GA data might sound good, but our SEO expert guarantees it will be a pain to pull and likely rarely referenced. It’s a brave new digital landscape out there and maybe the old data just isn’t very useful.
If you’re going to pull data, here’s what we recommend: Monthly sessions and users from 2020 - 2023 for default channels and devices + top landing pages, top pages, geographies, goals, and maybe events. That’s it.
