Animal Advocacy Day with Marin Humane

"The Marin Humane Advocacy Committee descended upon Sacramento to fight for animals (and the people who care for them). We lobbied lawmakers up and down all eight stories of the capital building, stating our case as to why they should vote for or against four different bills on the table.

🐕️ SB 1233 would expand vets' capacity for high-quality, high-volume spay and neuters. With the vet shortage now a crisis, this is critical to keeping animals from ending up in shelters.

🏠️ AB 2216 prohibits landlords from discriminating renters based on pet breeds and sizes and prevents them from charging additional 'pet rent'. Pet-inclusive housing keeps families together.

💵 AB 2248 prevents online brokers of dogs and cats from requiring a nonrefundable deposit. It also allows buyers to void the contract if the seller fails to disclose the original source of a dog or cat.

🚫 AB 2265 changes the state’s policy on releasing dangerous animals, creating a significant public safety risk. It also requires shelters to publicly post animals that will be euthanized. And requires public hearings on policy, protocol, and program changes. This was a NO vote.

It is heartening to meet lawmakers who love animals and are willing to fight for them, like Assembly Member Damon Connolly, who invited us into his office and spent time learning more about the bills.

It's always energizing to gather with fellow animal advocates and witness democracy in action!" - Aimee, our Founding Partner
